The Miracles of Jesus: A 7-Day Bible Study for Kids

When Jesus was walking on the earth, He performed many miracles and wonders. All the miracles Jesus performed attest to His divinity, might, and power. Jesus is not magic, nor did He use witchcraft to do these miracles. Jesus was able to perform miracles because He is God (John 10:30).
As the Messiah, Jesus could perform any miracle. A few of these miracles included healing, calming the storms, and casting out demons (Matthew 8:14-16, 23-27, 28-34). It is important to learn about these miracles to recognize Jesus’ divinity and His power. As parents and children complete this Bible study together, take your time and encourage your children to answer the challenge questions. At the end of the Bible study, there will be an end-of-study guide prayer for the family to do together.
Day One: Jesus Turns Water into Wine (John 2:1-11)
Jesus’ first miracle is turning water into wine at a wedding. This is the first of His many miracles. During the wedding, the wine had run out. When Mary tells this to Jesus, He wants to know why she wants to involve Him, as His hour has not yet come. Mary tells the servants to do whatever Jesus says, and they obey Him.
Jesus has the people fill the jars with water, tells the servants to draw the water from the jars, and have them serve it to the master of the banquet. The water had turned into wine because of the Lord’s power. The master of the banquet was impressed with the wine and said it was even better than the earlier wine. While this was Jesus’ first miracle, it was not His last. He would go on to do even greater things, such as healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, and raising the dead.
Challenge Questions:
- Mary already knew of Jesus’ divinity prior to His first miracle. Why do you think this is?
- This is Jesus’ first miracle. How does this change your view of His power and work in the world?
- What is the significance of Jesus turning water into wine?
Day Two: Jesus Casts Out an Unclean Spirit (Mark 1:23-28)
Within different versions of the Bible, we will either see the translators use the word “impure spirit,” “unclean spirit,” or “devil” to refer to a demon. The specific incident we are discussing today is when the Lord casts out a demon from a man who was in the local synagogue. The demon shouts at Jesus, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” (Mark 1:24).
The Lord tells the demon to be quiet and to come out of the man. At the command of the Lord’s words, the demon comes out of the man. From this very truth, we know that Jesus could perform miracles simply by speaking. This is because of the Lord’s power. The demons feared Jesus because they knew He was God in the flesh, and He could destroy them.
Challenge Questions:
- Demon possession can be scary. If you are a follower of Jesus, you never have to worry about being possessed by a demon. Does this bring you comfort? Why or why not?
- The demons are afraid of Jesus. How does this give you hope that the Lord is mightier than all things?
- Jesus can do anything, including casting out demons. What does this tell you about His power?
Day Three: Jesus Heals a Leper (Mark 1:40-45)
Through Mark 1:40-45, we see Jesus healing a leper. Leprosy is an infectious disease of the skin, which requires infected individuals to be isolated from others. In addition to affecting the skin, leprosy also affects the upper respiratory tract, the peripheral nerves, and the eyes. When someone became a leper during Jesus’ time, they could not be healed because there was no cure. However, Jesus heals a man with leprosy in Mark 1:40-45.
The man with leprosy asks the Lord to heal him if He is willing, and Jesus tells him He is. By just the words, “Be clean!” Jesus heals the man of leprosy. The Lord sends the healed man away, telling him not to tell others of what He had done. The man doesn’t listen and chooses to proclaim what the Lord had done for him from town to town. This forces Jesus to go into hiding. He could not enter towns publicly because everyone would demand that He heal them.
Challenge Questions:
- What do you think the man with leprosy thought after Jesus healed him?
- Do you think you would have obeyed Jesus’ orders not to tell others about Him? Or do you think you would have told everyone as the healed man did?
- Jesus had to start entering towns privately after the healed man proclaimed His miracles. Why do you think Jesus did this?
Day Four: Jesus Heals the Centurion’s Servant (Matthew 8:5-13)
Through Matthew 8:5-13, we see the faith of the Roman centurion. A centurion asks the Lord to heal his servant. The centurion’s servant was at home, paralyzed and suffering. Jesus asks the centurion if he wants Him to come and heal him, but the centurion says no. The centurion says to Jesus that he doesn’t deserve to have Him come under his roof. He asked Jesus to just say the word, and he had the faith that his servant would be healed.
Jesus was amazed at the centurion’s faith and said, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 8:10b-12).
Jesus tells the centurion to go; his servant was healed. The centurion returns home and finds his servant healed and healthy. Yet again, through this miracle, we see that healing comes from Jesus’ words. In our own lives, we don’t need to doubt Jesus’ power as He can do even greater things than we can imagine (Ephesians 3:20-21).
Challenge Questions:
- Why do you think the Roman centurion had such great faith in Jesus?
- Do you think you would have had the same faith as the centurion? Why or why not?
- Jesus heals the centurion’s servant with just His words. What does this tell us about His power?
Day Five: Jesus Calms the Storm (Matthew 8:23-27)
The miracle we are focusing on today is when Jesus calms the storm, as told in Matthew 8:23-27. From this Bible passage, we see the disciples are with the Lord on a boat. Jesus was sleeping when the waters started roaring. The disciples woke Him out of pure fear, thinking they would drown in the mighty storm. Jesus wakes at once, asks why they have such little faith, and starts calming the waves.
His disciples are amazed and recognize that He is no ordinary man. Jesus is fully man, but He is also fully God (Colossians 2:9; Philippians 2:5-8). This is known as the hypostatic union within theology. Jesus was able to perform the amazing miracles He did because of His divinity. A mere human could not do the things that Jesus did; His miracles alone attest to His divinity.
Challenge Questions:
- Would you have been afraid as the disciples were when the waves started roaring? Why or why not?
- Has fear ever caused you to doubt Jesus before?
- If Jesus can heal physical storms, we know that He can heal our spiritual storms, too. What storms do you need to talk to Him about today?
Day Six: Jesus Raises the Widow’s Son from the Dead (Luke 7:11-17)
An amazing miracle of the Lord is when He raises the widow’s son from the dead, as recorded in Luke 7:11-17. When Jesus entered the town of Nain, a dead person was being carried out, followed by his widowed mother. Jesus’ heart instantly went out to her, and He told her not to cry. Jesus walks up to the dead body, touches the bier the dead body was on, and says, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” (Luke 7:14b).
The boy sits us, begins to talk, and Jesus hands him to his mother. Everyone in the town is amazed and praises God. Raising someone from the dead had never been done before. Therefore, this told the people that Jesus was unique. If He could raise the dead, then surely, He was the Messiah.
Challenge Questions:
- If you could talk with the boy who was raised from the dead, what would you ask him?
- Through this miracle, we see Jesus’ love and compassion for others. Does this bring your heart comfort? Why or why not?
- Each miracle shows Jesus’ divinity and how He is the Messiah. Why do you think people still doubted Him?
Day Seven: Jesus Rises from the Dead (Matthew 28:1-10)
For our final day, we are reflecting on Matthew 28:1-10. Through this passage of the Bible, we see the Lord’s greatest miracle in the form of raising Himself from the dead. Jesus had raised others from the dead, such as the widow’s son from Nain and His friend Lazarus (John 11:38-44); however, He would also raise Himself from the dead.
Three days after His death, the Lord is resurrected and rolls the stone away from His grave. He appears to Mary Magdalene, the other women who followed Him, and His disciples. 1 Corinthians 15:6 records, “After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.”
If we believe that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, we receive salvation, redemption, and eternal life (Luke 24:47). Once we believe this, we become followers of Jesus. In this way, this miracle of the Lord still blesses us today. All people can place faith in Him, including us. Will you place faith in Him today?
Challenge Questions:
- If you were alive during Jesus’ life, would you have believed in Jesus’ resurrection? Why or why not?
- If you were an eyewitness to the resurrection, what would you tell others?
- How would you have felt after Jesus’ resurrection if you were one of His disciples?
End of Study Prayer: “Dear Lord, I am amazed at all Your miracles. Help me to reflect on each of these miracles and give You praise. You are the Messiah, and You are God. Help me to know when I’m ready to accept You as my Savior and Lord. I cannot wait to be one of Your followers! In Your Name, I pray, Amen.”
