Eternal God, in the middle of this stressful holiday season, please help me notice your presence with me, so I can focus on you and find real peace. Inspire me with wonder this Christmas Eve. May I enjoy transcendent moments of awe as I see glimpses of your work in my life. I worship you on this sacred night, God. My soul is full of gratitude for the ultimate gift of Jesus you gave our world. As I celebrate tonight, help me focus on you and not get distracted by time pressures, financial pressures, family conflicts, or any other type of holiday stress. Almighty God, as I gather with my family and friends on this Christmas Eve, I recognize the potential for both joy and tension. Colossians 3:13 reminds me to: “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Help me pursue forgiveness this Christmas. Please give me the strength to forgive others who have hurt me, and to ask the people I have hurt to forgive me. When others are willing, help us repair strained or broken relationships and reconcile with peace. In all of my relationships, guide my words and actions, enabling me to be kind. May I enjoy as much peace as possible in my relationships. Amen.

Jesus, Prince of Peace, I ask you for peace in these turbulent times of uncertainty and challenges. I never know what new tragedy I’ll learn about in the news. There is so much brokenness in our fallen world. But I find hope in your promise in John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” May this peace anchor me as I face life’s storms, giving me a peaceful and steady refuge with you, no matter what happens. Thank you that your peace is unshakable in any situation in my life and in our world. I love you, God. Amen.

God of all nations, on this Christmas Eve, I pray for peace in our troubled world. Please keep reaching out to leaders around the world, giving them your wisdom to resolve conflicts. Help people on all sides of the wars that are going on right now, sending them the healing they need. In Isaiah 2:4, I read of a future time during the last days when you “… will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” I earnestly pray for a world where nations seek unity over conflict. May the spirit of Christmas foster cooperation and understanding among diverse people in our world. Please give your people around the world the wisdom to pursue diplomacy with a sense of our common humanity in your global family. Amen. 

8. A prayer to become a peacemaker.

Merciful God, in this world that’s longing for peace, please empower me to be a peacemaker. You say in Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Help me work for peace however I can. Guide me to peaceful resolutions for conflicts in my life. Show me how I can pursue initiatives that promote peace in my community and in the world. Make me an ambassador of your transformative love in this broken world, helping others see that you are the true source of peace. As I work for peace in each situation, empower me with compassion, understanding, and a commitment to making positive change happen. Thank you, God. Amen.
