iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” -- Isaiah 52:7
One of our daughters doesn’t like others to look at her feet or wear sandals because she doesn’t think her feet are attractive, but the truth is, she has lovely feet. Ever since she was born, I have loved her sweet feet.
Still, like most things in life, people like to critique feet, considering whether toes are symmetrical and line up in order, or if heels and soles are soft and smooth. Foot massages, warm wax treatments, lotions, oils, and nail care all contribute to the appearance of lovely-looking feet. Still, the Bible describes beautiful feet in a way that differs from how most of us would think.
Spiritually speaking, it’s not through diligent hygiene and meticulous skin and nail care, but beautifying our feet comes in a way we may have overlooked or not been aware of as Christians.
So what does the Bible reveal to us about having beautiful feet? And how do we achieve this loveliness for our feet?
Beautiful Feet Come Through: Preparing Our Feet with Readiness
One of the essential pieces of spiritual armor is connected to our feet. We may not think of being ready to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ as part of our spiritually protective covering, a piece of armor that also beautifies our feet, but Scripture describes it as so.
Ephesians 6:15 explains, “And with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”
Having our feet ready to share the Good News of Jesus Christ is an essential piece of our armor, because if we’re not prepared to go when sent, then our armor is incomplete, plus causes us to be unable to move forward in response to God’s call.
2 Timothy 4:2 urges: “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.”
As well, Psalm 96:2 encourages us, “Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day.”
The Beauty of Readiness
Readiness is described as being ready and willing, something our feet aren’t always up to doing. Yet, rather than running in the opposite direction when faced with the decision to share Jesus and the Salvation He offers with another person or a group, God encourages us to be ready and willing.
As well, Acts 10:36 explains, “You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.”
In my Bible college course, Evangelism 101, I was required to visit a local mall and distribute Gospel tracts. Although my reluctant freshman feet weren’t all that ready and willing to go, passing the class depended on it, and it served as my catalyst and motivation to do so.
Years later, I would discover the truth that although we are responsible for our readiness to share the Gospel, God takes responsibility for the outcome of our efforts, relieving us of the pressure to be free to share without the weight of the results. As the Apostle Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 3:7-9:
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. We are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
Being ready to share God’s gift of Salvation is not just reserved for pastors, teachers, and missionaries, but for everyone who bears the name of Christ. In Jesus’ Great Commission, as it’s referred to, “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
A call for readiness when it comes to sharing the Gospel comes straight from the heart of God, and the question to ask ourselves is, “Are we set to answer His call by preparing our feet to be ready and willing to go and share the Gospel with those who haven’t heard it?”
Let’s Pray: Dear Father, Lead us today to ready our feet to share the Gospel with those we meet along our way. Help us answer your call to announce your good news to everyone we meet. In Jesus’ name, Amen
