“But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and He sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded—Genesis 8:1

Have we ever felt forgotten by God, believing there are too many concerns in the world for Him to think or remember us and our cares, needs, and requests? Do we ever look up and ask, “God, are You there?” hoping we’ll hear His voice respond from heaven?

If we’ve ever felt like God has forgotten about us, it’s good to know that He hasn’t and won’t ever because He has promised in Deuteronomy 31:8, “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

When Life Seems Aimless

As they sat on the waters, did Noah and his family ever question whether or not God had forgotten about them, as they were aimlessly floating on the earth, not sure where they were going or where they would land? If ever there was a time to feel forgotten, it might have been on the ark, floating around full of every animal created, as the last people alive on a completely flooded earth.

We tend to think they didn’t question God, asking where He was or if He was watching over them, but maybe that’s because we know how their story ends, but at the time, they didn’t know what was to come.

Still, we find comfort in reading that God remembered Noah, his family, and his floating zoo. We can find comfort, too, in reading more about how God remembers us, such as in Genesis 30:22, which reads, “Then God remembered Rachel; He listened to her and enabled her to conceive.”

As well, while walking aimlessly in the wilderness, Exodus 2:24 tells us, “God heard the Israelites groaning, and He remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.”

God assures and reminds us in Isaiah 49:16, so we know He doesn’t forget us, “See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me.”

God Remember Details, Too

Not only does God remember us, but He also remembers the details of our lives, ones we may have even forgotten ourselves. Yet, He still remembers.

If we think God doesn’t remember the details of our lives, all we have to do is look back over the years and see how He is in them, even when we were oblivious to them at the time.

Years ago, for some unknown reason in my own life, I chose orchids for the beginning of a January Ohio winter blizzard wedding. Because my Dad was financing my ceremony, I don’t even know how hard it was to order them in the very dead of winter, or how expensive it was to fly orchids to our small, cold, weathered town.

As well, orchids haven’t really been on my radar, or on my list of favorite flowers, yet I chose them. So, I have no logical explanation for my thinking or decision in selecting them for my wedding, except that now I see God was leading me in this detail and had a plan for my future that I didn’t know about.

Years later, we spent a special wedding anniversary on the Big Island of Hawaii, also called the “Orchid Isle.” Not until then did it finally make sense to me why I had chosen orchids, because before my anniversary even happened, God remembered.

We Are Always on His Mind

Although Willie Nelson’s hit song “You Were Always on My Mind” is about romantic relationships, we can be sure that it’s a song lived out in our relationship with God, who loves us forever, as we are always in His mind, even if we don’t recognize or realize it most of the time.

He remembers our requests, our hearts’ desires, and even leads us in the details of our lives, often guiding us even when we may be oblivious to His leadership, reminding us that He is with us throughout our lives.

Even if and when we forget, God remembers and reminds us that He does.

Let’s Pray: Dear Father, Thank you for reminding me that You remember my prayers, concerns, cries of my heart, and even the specific details of my life. Help me to trust and believe when I feel like You’ve forgotten me, that You haven’t and will never leave, forsake, or turn Your back on me, even when I forget all that You’ve done for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When our hearts feel troubled, Jesus invites us to trust Him again.

This short midweek prayer creates space to pause, breathe deeply, and return to Jesus’s words in John 14:1–6, where He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” In this guided prayer, we acknowledge the places where worry, uncertainty, or longing have unsettled our hearts and bring them honestly before God.

Jesus reminds us that we are not alone—that He is with us, that He is preparing a place for us, and that He will return for us. As we pray, we ask for help to trust Him more deeply and to follow Him in the way He has already made clear: to love God fully and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Take a few quiet minutes to slow down, listen for God’s invitation, and rest in the presence of the One who leads us in truth and life. If you like what you hear, follow So Much More on Apple or Spotify so you never miss an episode!
