A Prayer for God’s Will to Be Done in My Life

Have you ever wondered what God’s will is for your life? We ask questions like “What is my purpose?” and “Why am I here?” One clear part of God’s will is that our lives glorify Him—that we live in a way that brings Him honor. Maybe you already know what God requires of you, or maybe you’re still discovering the many things He has planned. Some of those things may feel exciting, others challenging, but in all of it, we can confidently say: “He does all things well!”
Have you ever prayed for God’s will to be done in the middle of a hard diagnosis or after receiving painful news? When Jesus was just hours away from the cross, He took His closest friends with Him to pray. The weight of what He was about to face overwhelmed Him. He asked God to remove the suffering ahead; yet even in that moment, He surrendered, saying, “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
None of us wants to be outside God’s will or outside His protection. So why do we sometimes make decisions that place us there? Often, our desires don't line up with what God wants for us. My prayer is that we would never choose a path without Jesus at the center. I hope your heart desires the same; to live fully within God’s will, to bring Him glory, to encourage other believers, and to bear witness to those who don’t yet know Christ.
Jesus came to die on the cross. If He had not surrendered to God’s will, the world would be without hope - lost in sin and destined for eternity without Him. Aren’t you thankful that He prayed, “Not my will but Yours be done”? Are you willing to let God’s will be carried out in your life, even when it’s hard? Will you obey His Word and respond when He calls, even if you feel unqualified? Will you say yes to the hard paths like singleness, sickness, or sacrifice, if they bring Him honor and praise?
The reason behind God’s plan may not be clear, but we can trust that He is in control. Consider the story where Jesus healed the man born blind. When asked why the man was born that way, some assumed it was punishment for sin. But Jesus responded simply: He was born blind so that God could receive glory. If we conform to the thinking of this world, we may miss how God is using our lives to glorify Himself. We may grieve over God’s decisions, forgetting that our sorrows can become a source of strength for others.
My prayer today is that you would desire to be in the center of God’s will. That you would daily ask Him to lead your life and use you for His purposes.
Let’s Pray:
Abba Father,
Thank You for Your goodness and mercy toward me. You have been so faithful. I believe that the plans You have for my life are good, even when they differ from what I expected. Help me to count my blessings and be grateful for all You’ve done. The bad can never outweigh the good, and I praise You for that.
Make me more like Christ so that I would long to remain in Your will. I pray that Your will be done in my life now and for as long as You have me here. Help me to trust You, knowing that You see the beginning and the end. Strengthen my faith even when I don’t understand.
Remind me daily that my life is meant to glorify You; not to chase my own plans, but to fulfill the purpose the Father has given me. May I seek Your will now and forever, trusting that Your plans are to prosper me and not to harm me, to give me hope and a future.
