A Prayer for Healing from Trauma
By: Amanda Idleman

Bible Reading: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." - Isaiah 53:5

Read or Listen Below:

The world we live in is a broken and fallen place. We no longer enjoy the peace and tranquility of Eden now that sin has entered our world. So many of us walk around with wounds both great and small due to the evil that is so common amongst humanity.

Our trauma can impact our lives in so many profound and difficult ways. Our brains are shaped by the sum of our experiences. Our bodies hold onto stress and the pain of living in a world that has fallen away from God’s glory. This can be a heavy burden for humanity to hold onto. We grieve because we know things are not as they should be.

By grace, there is hope past our pain. God won't undo what has been done to us, but he can redeem and remake our stories for his glory. He can heal the pieces of us that have been broken at the hands of another person's sin. There is a power that is greater than the sin that is so common to people.

God’s grace covers us when we reach for it. We have to invite him into our cracked and broken places. We have to surrender our shame and accept the free gift of healing and salvation. His wisdom guides us toward the places and people we need to heal. His love for us offers the chance to love ourselves again. It is by his wounds that we are healed.

The best gift that Jesus gives us as we process the ways life is not as it should be is his presence. As a child of God, we are never alone. We may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, but we are fearless because a power greater than death walks with us.

He can make the dead things of this world come back to life. Salvation is a rebirth. It’s bringing to life the goodness of God’s creation in us and putting away the things that hold us back and want to trap us.

You are no longer defined by what has happened to you. You are a child of God. Chosen. Redeemed. Loved. Covered by Christ’s blood. Free. Whole. New. Beautiful. Righteous

You are his.

Let’s Pray:
Father, I thank you for your precious healing blood. I thank you that you humbled yourself by becoming a man and experiencing the trauma, hardship, and loss that every human person endures here on this fallen earth. We are so grateful that with you, there is hope that is greater than our hurts. You are more powerful than sin and death. By your stripes, we are healed. We ask that you would heal us. Make the dead parts of us new again. Bring the right people into our lives who will encourage us and support us. Remind us daily that with you, we are free from the power of sin. You have called us chosen and loved, and we are yours. Let us walk in that reality, not the reality that the enemy of our souls wants to push on us. You are the truth, and we grab onto that truth and believe you will set us free. Amen.

In this episode of Talk About That, you will laugh along with stories about children’s books, volleyball mornings, St. Patrick’s Day, and even the questionable legacy of the Power Team, but underneath the humor is a thoughtful conversation about one of the deepest questions of faith: how God truly sees us. John and Jonnie reflect on weakness, mercy, and the struggle many believers feel in accepting that God is not only patient with them, but genuinely pleased to call them His own. It’s an honest, encouraging reminder that our relationship with God is not built on performance, perfection, or “having it all together,” but on His love, grace, and fatherly delight in His children. You'll come away challenged to see yourself less through the lens of self-criticism and more through the steady, compassionate eyes of a God who knows you fully, loves you deeply, and may just be rooting for you more than you realize.
