A Prayer of Praise for the Giver of All Gifts
By Keneesha Saunders-Liddie

Bible Reading:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” - James 1:17

Listen or Read Below:

Praise isn’t just the singing of songs. It is a way of life. It should be incorporated into our lifestyles. God is so good to us through both good times and bad that we can’t help but give Him the praise that is due Him. Just as we are encouraged in God’s Word to pray without ceasing, I believe that praise should be the same.

God has given us many gifts, even more than we have asked for. When Jesus hung on the cross, you and I were on His mind, and the gift of salvation was made possible. The gift of hope has been granted to us because Jesus came to earth in the form of a babe. The Creator became the created. What gift could be more precious than this?

However, throughout life, we see that our key scripture is true about the God we serve. He is the giver of all gifts. Our God is worthy to be praised because every good and perfect gift comes from Him and Him alone. We shouldn’t forget that he owns all things on this earth. Don’t think that your hard work is the reason you have a good home, a good family, and your bills are paid each month. God is the one who is in total control. He has given you the strength to do the hard work. He has provided you with breath in your lungs each and every day that you wake. He is deserving of all the praise.

When it's time for gift-giving, whether it’s for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas, we wonder how we can outdo each other. Sometimes we fall short, and at other times, we excel. Our God does all things well. When we ask for things that will not benefit us, he decides not to give us what we requested. Other times, he allows us to receive what we requested, but it is always according to His will and His plans for us. I don’t know about you, but I have so many reasons to praise God that I could never run out. Even in today's world, where the culture and climate are rocky and uncertain, God remains worthy of our praise.

Think of every person you know, and also consider yourself and how fickle and unstable we can all be at times. It is not so for our God. His brother James identifies His character in our verse. God does not change like shifting shadows. Wow! What does that mean? God doesn’t give a gift and take it back, and this is so important when it comes to our salvation. Those He saves are His forever.

Our God is unchanging. Our God is constant. Do these statements make you want to praise the Lord? I know they make my heart scream, I know they make my faith sure, and I know I have more reasons to praise His holy name. God is the ultimate source of all goodness. There is evil in the world, but we can trust that God is good; He will be good to us, and He will always give us good gifts, because He has said that He does not change.

Let’s Pray:

Oh Heavenly Father, You are the giver of all good and perfect gifts. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. What a comfort that is to my weary soul. There is evil all around. There are trials and temptations that I have to go through, but You don’t tempt believers with evil.

You are the one who gives perfect gifts to Your children. You lead us through temptation, and Jesus has walked the path that we now must walk. There is no temptation that Jesus hasn’t experienced and overcome while He was here on earth. Thank you for being the giver of good gifts. My soul praises and extols Your matchless name because You are Jehovah Jireh, my provider.

You give gifts to me that are wonderful, and even when I have to walk through trials, your constant presence is there with me. You are unchanging, Oh God, so that I can depend on you. I will continue to praise and magnify you, oh Lord. Let my praises be always on the tip of my tongue. I praise You with my body, with my finances, with my lifestyle, and with everything that You have blessed me with.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
