A Prayer to Be a Missionary Every Day
By Keneesha Saunders Liddie

Bible Reading:
Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” (John 4:39 NLT)

Listen or Read Below:

As believers, we are called to do the work that Jesus started long ago, which is to share the good news of the gospel with those who don’t know Him. When Jesus lived on earth, that is what He did, and He left an example for believers to follow in the way He lived. Many think of people going to Africa or China and other remote parts of the world, but being a missionary is more than that. We should not neglect local missions that minister to those who live in our communities and the people we interact with daily.

I don’t know about you, but I can see the signs of the times are clear. We are closer now to the coming of Christ than when we first believed. We were not just called to sit idly in the church building waiting for Jesus to return. Believers should be involved in soul-winning, where we reach the lost no matter the cost. It is great for us to support the men and women on the field financially and through prayer, but you are also a missionary. When we share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others, we are being missionaries in our own right.

Do you know the most powerful message you can share is your testimony? A simple tract with the plan of salvation and a sharing of John 3:16 can help you effectively share the gospel with an unbeliever. Telling someone how God saved you by sharing your testimony may be all that’s needed to reach someone God has already been working on. Remember that some of us plant, some water, and some reap the harvest. Each part is equally important when winning souls for the kingdom of God.

One story from the Bible stands out to me when I think of local missions. Jesus went out of his way to visit Samaria to encounter a woman who was ripe for the picking. After she tasted the living water, she went to her community and brought everyone out to meet with Jesus. She not only recognized her need for a Savior, but also became a passionate soul-winner when she shared Jesus with her entire village. “Come and see a man who told me all I have ever did, is not he the Christ?”

There was no shame or guilt in her life anymore. The reason Jesus was able to meet her alone was that she went to the well when no one else would, in order to avoid the other women and their gossip. But once she met Jesus, she was no longer the same. He came into her life to satisfy her soul, and she was able to testify of God and share him with others. This is how we should be. We should be missionaries every day to the people we meet, our families, coworkers, and friends who need to encounter God and start a relationship with Him.

Let’s Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for saving a wretch like me. Help me to see others through your lens, as sinners in need of a Savior. You have said that the fields are ripe and ready for harvest, so I pray for laborers that you will raise up. Bless me so that I may be a blessing to others through my life, my finances, and my testimony. Give me a passion for souls, dear Lord, that I would boldly share the good news with those who need hope.

I pray that I would be a missionary every day. Give me the words and fill me with your Holy Spirit to say what you place on my heart. Grant me wisdom to speak when you want me to and be quiet when I should. Heavenly Father, thank you for calling other believers who are missionaries who have shared the gospel with me and have given me a hope and a future in you. I pray that my light will shine just where I am, and I will be salt in my community. Help me to put you first in all that I do and share your good news with this dying world.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

In this episode of Talk About That, you will laugh along with stories about children’s books, volleyball mornings, St. Patrick’s Day, and even the questionable legacy of the Power Team, but underneath the humor is a thoughtful conversation about one of the deepest questions of faith: how God truly sees us. John and Jonnie reflect on weakness, mercy, and the struggle many believers feel in accepting that God is not only patient with them, but genuinely pleased to call them His own. It’s an honest, encouraging reminder that our relationship with God is not built on performance, perfection, or “having it all together,” but on His love, grace, and fatherly delight in His children. You'll come away challenged to see yourself less through the lens of self-criticism and more through the steady, compassionate eyes of a God who knows you fully, loves you deeply, and may just be rooting for you more than you realize.
