TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." - Hebrews 13:8

The best news in the world is that God's truth never changes. As culture shifts, twists, and turns clearly upside down, God does not. It is as if these changes make His truth more visible—more concrete.

Our pastor shared a story about the Titanic a month ago. I couldn't believe the details he was sharing that I had never heard of before. The vessel never had enough lifeboats to save all the passengers. That truth alone left me in absolute shock. And when the ship struck the iceberg, the handful of boats that were to be used to rescue passengers left behind more than 400 people stranded. Four hundred people perished who didn't have to.

He went on to share about the good news of the gospel. The truth that comes from the life of Jesus. The truth that never changes. Never shifts. Never plays favorites and never makes decisions out of fear.

The Word of God tells us, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8 We get to carry this message into the world that so desperately needs it. We, as believers, have a truth to share with the world that changes hearts from the inside out. It makes darkness flee. It sets captives free. It breaks through the bondage of sin and gives the only way to eternal life.

The unchanging truth of God is not something we should keep to ourselves as the world unravels. It is a gift we are called to share with anyone who will listen. We're to share it in the way we love and live. Our lives should be part of the evidence of the truth of God.

That feels like a big ask.

Imperfect people are called to carry the truth to a hurting, confused world. Then I reflect on who Jesus chose to be His twelve men. They were not perfect; they were not prettied-up church boys and girls. Not even close. They were the opposite. But they were real. They didn't drape themselves in a faux righteousness. They draped themselves in the grace and mercy that Jesus offered them through a relationship with Him.

They needed Jesus. He didn't need them, but He wanted to be in communion with them. He desired to lead them to eternal life and use them as vessels to bring His light to the world.

He looks to us in the very same way. As the world goes wild, we get to rest in the unchanging, unshakable truth of God. We get to be the bearers of the life-changing, life-saving message of hope, grace, redemption, and new life, all because Jesus took our place.

Nothing will change the truth of God or change God's mind on what He's spoken as truth. His character is rooted in honesty, dependability, authenticity, and trustworthiness. All attributes of the life of His Son and the gift we receive when we enter into a relationship with Him. As our character changes, His does not. He makes us more like Him. By His grace, we are sanctified and molded into a new version of ourselves. A version that is more like Him—trustworthy, dependable, authentic, and honest.

Rest in the promise that Jesus is the same yesterday and today. Don't hide the truth, proclaim it boldly, all while finding a haven beneath the arms of your trustworthy Savior. His faithfulness is poured out over you, and His truth is woven in the Spirit that resides inside of you. Take heart, dear one - truth will always prevail.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,
Thank you for the gift of your unchanging truth. In a world that is constantly changing its stance on what you've called true, I'm grateful I get to rest in your Word and your standard of living. Please help me be bold in the assignments you've given - my home, my work, and my church. Remind me that I'm called and equipped to share the truth that saves. I pray for opportunities to be part of the eternal rescue missions you undertake every single day in the hearts of those who do not yet know you. Thank you for grace, keep me humble, and make me a bright light in the world.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. What truths about Jesus bring you peace when the world feels chaotic?
Write them down—and return to them when you're tempted to fear change or drift from your spiritual anchor.

2. Are you living in a way that reflects God’s unchanging truth?
Consider where your words, habits, or silence might be watering down the gospel—and ask the Lord for courage to speak with grace and clarity.

3. Who in your life needs to hear the truth of the gospel right now?
Pray for an open door to share—not just with words, but through a life shaped by honesty, dependability, and Christ-centered love.

Reflect on tonight’s prayer and share how God met you there. Join the Your Nightly Prayer discussion on the Crosswalk Forum.
