TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you.” - Deuteronomy 31:8

Deuteronomy is an amazing book; it is the 5th book in the Torah. It was written by Moses. This verse is a part of Moses' final address to the new generation of Israelites before they enter the promised land of Canaan. It is just a page or two later where we read of the death of Moses.

I am sure there are some of us listening this evening who are bracing themselves for the upcoming Christmas Celebrations, with the new year looming. It’s a strange time when you're struggling, suffering, or grieving.

I know some of us are feeling like life just keeps throwing things at us, like we are already on the ash heap, resonating with Job, unaware of why we are struggling so hard. Yet scripture tells us Jesus is interceding for us, and the two don’t seem to marry up.

Sometimes it can be hard to put on the smiling faces and pretend to be ok. Sometimes we don’t want to pretend we are ok.

But friend, before you lay your head down this evening, I would like to take a second to remind you of Deuteronomy 3,1, which tells us so clearly that God does not abandon us but rather he goes before us.

The New Testament calls Jesus our Good Shepherd, and just like a Shepherd does for his sheep, God goes ahead to prepare the path for us to take, He finds the provision to keep us going, and locates safe resting spots on the journey of this life.

So, if you are feeling alone, scared, abandoned, friend, take heart, our God, our God Shepherd is making a way for you through the desert you find yourself in, and He will ensure you are well looked after.

Let’s pray.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for reminding us that in your word, you have reminded us that we do not walk alone. But you are always with us. Even when we feel alone, or the devil whispers in our ear, we can declare truthfully that we are not, you will never abandon us.
As this new year approaches, remind me, Lord, that you will be faithful in 2026, just as you were in 2025 and all the years that have gone before.
Thank you for never leaving me or forsaking me, but rather being a God who draws men unto yourself.
In Jesus name
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. When the path ahead looks uncertain, remember this: God isn’t just beside you—He’s already gone before you.

2. You don’t have to fake a smile when life is hard. Here’s the quiet truth from Scripture that offers real hope for the road ahead.

3. Before you step into a new year—or even into tomorrow—God is already there, making a way. Here’s how to trust Him in the waiting.
