Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness." - Psalm 86:15

SOMETHING TO PONDER

When Lent feels hard or heavy, this reminder anchors us in God’s unfailing mercy. Lent is observed for 40 days leading up to Easter and is a time when believers often choose to fast to focus their minds more on the Lord. 

As we journey through Lent, we can grow weary in our efforts to draw closer to the Lord. The Psalms remind us that God is full of compassion and grace. He is slow to anger, not pointing the finger at us the moment we fail; he is kind and loving. He knows our hearts and honors our desire to grow closer to him, even if we aren't perfect in our efforts. 

Rest in God’s grace as you navigate Lent. Lean into God’s presence, letting that be your focus and your comfort, not getting fixated on how you are performing in your fast for the Lord.

Remember, God so loved you that he gave his only son that you would not perish but would have everlasting life (John 3:16). This is the central message of the Lent and Easter season. We are to quiet our minds and bodies, so we have the capacity to be humbled and changed by Jesus' life, message, and death on the cross. 

No matter what our life has been, what mistakes we have made, or how far we have been from God, there is always sufficient grace to cover our sins. His grace is enough for us to draw us near to the cross again, to live covered by God’s peace, and find unity in our relationships. Even now, no matter what you are now, there is grace for you. 

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,
I thank you for your amazing grace. I thank you for the gift of your son who died for me on the cross. Help me to stay in a close relationship with you. Help me to embrace your grace that covers my failures, that draws me close to you, and brings reconciliation to my story. Help me to rest in the knowledge of your grace. Bring my soul the peace it craves.
Amen.
