TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8

SOMETHING TO PONDER

This reflection reminds us that we don’t have to run—we’re called to walk humbly with God.

Did you know that walking offers many emotional and physical benefits? Walking is so simple, it's something most of us do every day without even considering the effort our bodies are making, but this simple exercise helps guard our health.

The Bible tells us that God wants us to walk with him. We don’t have to run around frantically, prone to fatigue; we can simply engage our faith at a consistent, manageable, and healthy rate. God delights in journeying with us.

God knows that we often get distracted, so he graciously gives us some guidance on what righteous living looks like. We are invited to act justly, which means doing what is morally right or fair. As believers who are walking with Christ, we are to love mercy. Mercy is showing compassion or forgiveness. To live with grace as our first response rather than our last resort. Humility is to guide our actions. Pride puts us in opposition to God’s way. Pride leads us to our demise, but when we live with humility, God can use us.

If you feel overwhelmed in your efforts to please God, remember that God simply wants to walk with us: no panting, no tired muscles, just a consistent, steady pace. Focus on simply living with justice, mercy, and humility. Keep God’s spirit and his words close to your heart. He is faithful to guide us on the journey!

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,
We thank you for desiring to simply walk with us, for delighting in being with us. We are so grateful for your presence and guidance in our lives. We continue to ask that you show us your ways and teach us your path. Guide us in your truth. Show us how to find rest within you, no chaotic running, or stressful striving. Guide us as we seek to live with justice, mercy and humility.
We love you, Jesus.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Reflect on how you may be living in an unsustainable way. How can you slow down and find a healthy pace?

2. How are you living as a champion for justice? How can you better show mercy? In what ways do you need to embrace humility?

3. How can you engage more physical walking into your routine as a reminder of the pace that God wants us to embrace in our faith walk?

Reflect on tonight’s prayer and share how God met you there. Join the Your Nightly Prayer discussion on the Crosswalk Forum.
