TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of Him in every place" -2 Corinthians 2:14

SOMETHING TO PONDER

How many of us know the pleasantness of walking through the perfume sections of department stores with their enticing aromas? Or, on the other hand, experiencing entering a crowded locker room after a physical workout and smelling the unpleasant odors found there?

Whether we like it or not, as humans, our bodies are prone to producing some type of fragrance, whether sweet or not so sweet. Of course, bathing daily helps in what scent we carry on us, and there are options to help us choose what odor we want to spread around in life.

But are we aware of what 2 Corinthians 2:14 reveals, that as our physical bodies carry a specific scent, so does our spiritual condition? As Christians we carry the sweet fragrance of Christ with us, too, one we can enhance by continually bathing in God’s word and practically living it out in our daily lives.

In following Christ, we receive a sweet spiritual fragrance that we can’t help but spread around wherever we go. “For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?” 2 Corinthians 15-16

Whether we’re aware of it or not, as believers in Jesus Christ, God is carrying out His purpose through us. We are spreading the Good News of Him in every place we go, whether to work, on vacation, at the store, or around the block; we are revealing the fragrance of Him.

Often, we as Christians may feel like we don’t have much to offer the world if we don’t have a prominent job, ministry, or name, like our lives don’t really matter much or count with God or men and women. We may wonder what purpose God has for our lives, not understanding that through our presence on earth, God is ministering and calling those who are lost to new life in Him.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Father,
Thank You for leading us in triumph in Christ and through us revealing the sweet fragrance of Jesus in every place. Our hearts are deeply grateful for the privilege of carrying a pleasing aroma that not only brings You pleasure but spreads His presence everywhere we go. Help us to appreciate and be aware of His fragrance being expressed through us, and of how we are influencing and bringing life to those around us. Encourage and uplift us through knowing our lives matter and make a difference on earth by fulfilling Your purposes.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

THREE THINGS TO PONDER UPON

1. Are there specific times when you have been aware of carrying the fragrance of Christ with you? If so, consider how God might have been ministering to others through you.

2. Consider how you can refresh His fragrance in your life by studying His word, spending time in prayer, and fellowshipping with other believers.

3. Ask God to daily lead you in where He wants you to spread His aroma and make His presence known.
