TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."  - Psalms 147:3

SOMETHING TO PONDER

If summer is feeling long and not gone the way you hoped…you are not alone. Maybe you had good plans. Perhaps you prayed ahead of time, asking God for a season of good family time, even a breakthrough in some areas- connection with your kids, lighter days, slower rhythms, some healing. But now? You’re just tired. The days are long, but not the kind of long bringing about lasting moments- the kind you prayed for. They’re long in the sense that you can’t wait until everyone is asleep.

No one can agree on anything. Conversations go nowhere. Doors slam. Patience is over before breakfast, and grace feels in short supply. You’re whispering prayers under your breath that sound more like, “Lord, just get me through this day.”

I want you to hear this: God sees you! He sees the broken places that you can’t put words to. Psalms 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” The words of the psalmist are not just poetic fluff- it’s a promise- a promise we can cling to. God comes close in our pain and heartbreak. His healing is slow, intentional, and holy. So, if you are grieving the connection that feels just out of reach with your child, you’re going to make it. And if you’re wondering if anything will ever change in your home, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. God is always at work. God doesn’t always expect you to hold it all together. He’s also not just near the BIG heartbreaks- He’s present in the little bumps and bruises of the day. The sighs. The tears behind closed doors. The prayers you can barely whisper. He’s not disappointed in you- He sits with you. He weeps with you. He loves your child even more than you do, and He hasn’t left you to carry the weight alone.

You’re showing up, day after day, with fierce love- even when it’s hard. Perhaps the healing is revealed in a softened voice- maybe a smile. Possibly it’s simply allowing God to sit with you in the messy middle for a while, trusting that He’s not in a rush and He’s not finished. You’ll hear His whisper that says, “Keep going.” You’re not just going to survive the remainder of summer! You’re being tenderly held by the One who heals. He is binding up those wounds you can’t reach. And He’s doing more than you can see. May you sense Him and remember that His love for you is unwavering, even in the midst of your struggle and heartbreak.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Heavenly Father, my children are a gift from you. You have ordained my life to be part of theirs. I feel defeated and lost- in need of your presence, your comfort, your healing. You created us for connection, and it feels unattainable at the moment. Help me to know this is just a season and that you desire so much more. Please help me not to give up and to see that you are always at work, even in the most challenging times. You are a good, good father. The redeemer of all things lost, making all things new. Bring renewal, restoration, and hope to our home. I trust you with this, Jesus, because nothing is too complicated for you.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. How can you allow yourself to grieve unmet expectations without letting go of hope?

2. Are there ways you've overlooked His nearness because you were expecting Him to show up differently?

3. What small signs of redemption am I missing?
