TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” - Proverbs 19:21

SOMETHING TO PONDER

A prayer to give God full access to your upcoming season and every item on your list.

It is all starting: the school supply runs, sports, activity sign-ups, field trip scheduling, work trips, and more. The calendar is filling up!

In my home, we’ve reached the difficult parenting stage in which we have multiple kids, all with different school schedules, sports and activity commitments, medical needs, and friend groups. Almost every weekend up to Christmas is filled with tournaments, swim meets, field trips, and more. It’s wild.

Maybe you are like me, and thinking of the next few months and all we are committed to raises your blood pressure! As we prepare for the soon-coming Fall routine, I am reminded that before I get overwhelmed and say yes to one more thing, I need to pause and pray.

Every August, our church does 21 days of prayer, one of the best ways to prepare our hearts and lives for the fast-approaching season. I encourage you to engage in your own season of daily prayer before diving into the Fall. Surrender all you have planned to the Lord, asking him to guide your steps and direct your path in the coming months.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,
I thank you for our opportunities to try new things in the coming season. I ask that you bring us the peace and joy I need to enter Fall well. I come before you and surrender my plans to you. I entrust my goals and expectations to your care. I ask you to guide my steps, open the doors only you can open, and close the doors only you can close.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. What commitments add meaning and joy to your life? Which ones are more of a chore? Is there anything you can eliminate from the calendar? Is there something you need to say ‘yes’ to that you’ve procrastinated doing?

2. Choose a season to diligently pray daily over the season to come. It could be seven days, fourteen days, or 21 days, but engage in regular prayer before the hustle of the Fall begins.

3. Choose a key verse to ground you over the Fall months. Post it in your home and meditate on it often.
