Your Nightly Prayer

The Blessings We Long to See
Your Nightly Prayer for Mar. 31, 2025

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”-  2 Corinthians 9:8

SOMETHING TO PONDER

I’m not too proud to admit that even though I know the beautiful blessings and promises of God, I still sometimes feel like I need more. As in, I desire fresh tangible tokens of his hope on top of what the holy Word says is true. Additional reminder blessings I can see, touch, and taste to awaken my senses to the truths that lie deep in my soul. I can even falsely convince myself that I actually need such outward evidence to be certain of what stirs in my spirit.

Let me ask, are there some specific blessings in your life you’re seeking right now? Something that, if you’re being honest, you want to see unfold with your own two eyes? Maybe you are stuck in a monotonous rhythm of life, have been dealing with more difficulty than you can handle, or don’t know quite why you’re down or disheartened. But are you certain you could really use some sparks of hope in front of your face. Or some surprise hints of happiness on the horizon. I have similar desires a lot, for all sorts of reasons, in all sorts of seasons.

But in the recent midst of contemplating my longings to plainly see some fresh goodness, a conviction came over me. It was this: The visible blessings I’m seeking are already there. The problem is, I’m just too focused on the struggle, the disappointments, and what I don’t yet have to see the beauty each moment and day beholds.

Instead of more proof of God through my physical vision, what I really need is restored spiritual vision. To remove the blinders the enemy keeps casting out, and to see with a spiritual sight what God has already done. And what God is currently doing. I need to “Open the Eyes of my Heart” just like the song sings…

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You…
To see You high and lifted up
Shining in the light of Your glory…

It’s true. When we open the eyes of our hearts to him, we find him. And we see him. We feel and experience him. His presence permeates in our very beings. Evidence of his power and love lavished all over our magnificent creation. And his fingerprints smothering every thread of our intricately woven lives.

So, right now, if you’re seeking and longing for blessings in some area of your life like we all always are, will you reset your heart with me? And reset your focus and spiritual sight. Let’s name the blessings of yesterday and call out the blessings in and around us today. Acknowledge that God gave it all. Acknowledge the many blessings that have been, the array of blessings here today, and the abundant blessings that are to come. Every bit from our good God of boundless blessings. Blessings that will continue to come in, to, and through us for his glory and great purpose. Because our Lord was, is, and will forever be unfailingly with us and unwaveringly good and gracious to us. Let’s open the eyes of our hearts to his blessings right now… and be blessed by him and for him.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Lord God,
You are the Father of all blessings, the giver of every good thing in and around me. I confess that I long to see and feel the rich blessings of life but constantly dismiss so much of what you are doing and placing in and around me. I tend to let the world tell me what I need, become blinded to your abundant blessings, and fail to see all you continue to pour out. You have always been good to me. And I want to open the eyes of my heart to it all, Lord. I want to see you. I want to see your glory. Give me spiritual sight to see the wonderful things you are doing and the beauty you are in the midst of making. In your glorious Name,
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Are you longing for more than what you see around you?

2. Have you stopped today to truly consider the blessings you have already been given? And thanked God, the gracious giver, for it all?

3. Will you ask God right now to give you spiritual sight, to open your eyes to the good gifts he has given, and thank him for the good gifts he is sure to keep giving?
