Your Nightly Prayer

You Are Not a Mistake or Accident
Your Nightly Prayer for Apr. 14, 2025
By Lynette Kittle

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

“From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands’ -Acts 17:26

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Have you felt at times that you were born at the wrong time or place? Do you feel like God misplaced you, thinking you were meant to live in a different family, another country, or time period in history, where you believe you would have fit in better, enjoyed living more, and had a better quality of life?

Or, maybe like one of my cousins, you’ve been told your entire life that you were an accident or a mistake, and you’ve grown up believing it.

But it isn’t true because God doesn’t make mistakes. He doesn’t put us in the wrong time and place. As well, He hasn’t given people the power to accidentally create another human. Men and women may not have planned the lives of their children, but we know from His word that God does plan ahead.

As Psalm 139:16 describes, “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”

God carefully created each one of us, as Psalm 139:13 describes, “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

No matter the circumstances of our conception or birth, Psalm 139:14 reassures us of God’s plan for us. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Even so, we may still feel like we don’t know which way to turn in life; some may feel lost, but when we’re not sure which way to go, we can ask God to lead us, and He will, like Psalm 32:8 assures, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you.”

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Father, Thank you for planning my life in advance by knitting me together in my mother’s womb and ordaining my days before I was ever born. Lead me in seeing and understanding Your purposes and plans for my life. Help me to go forward in life knowing that I’m where You placed me. Teach me to follow Your pathway for my life and to live each day knowing I’m not in the wrong place, or the wrong time, or an accident, or a mistake, but fearfully and wonderfully created by You. Let me be encouraged today and also encourage others with the truth of Your Word, that they are made by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Have you ever felt like you don’t belong here during this time on earth? Do you struggle with believing you were meant to be alive at this time?

2. Have you or someone you know been told they are here by accident, or that your birth was a surprise, or a mistake? If so, know that God planned your life before the foundation of the world. The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:4, “For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.”

3. Do you struggle with believing God has a purpose and plan for your life? You don’t have to wander on earth wondering what that is because God tells us that when we ask, He will teach and instruct us which way to go, all the while keeping His loving eye on us.
