The hymn was written in 1855 by Joseph Medlicott Scriven. He immigrated from England to Canada and never married. He was engaged twice, but both of his fiancées tragically died shortly before their weddings. It’s said that Scriven wrote the hymn for his mother, who was suffering from an illness back in the U.K. Scriven also suffered from poor health throughout his life. Before he became a pastor and teacher, he trained with the military to go to India, but had to quit due to his ailments.

Check out The Detty Sisters as they deliver their powerful rendition of ‘Are You Washed in the Blood.’ Here, the four sisters and their beautiful mother sing at Richmond Dale Church of God in Richmond Dale, Ohio. ‘Are You Washed in the Blood’ was written by Presbyterian Minister Elisha Albright Hoffman in 1878. The old song speaks of the most enduring, everlasting, and timeless truth—of salvation through Jesus.

From left to right, the girls are: Peyton, Cadie, Lily, Sophia (who is nicknamed “curly”), and their mom, Amber. The girls each began singing when they were very small in their home church, but in 2018, the family felt the Lord calling them to begin singing beyond the walls of their home and church building. That’s when they “stepped out in faith.” 

Today, the Detty Sisters are booked well in advance to perform across the country, and they have 213,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel. These beauties use their amazing voices to spread the news of Jesus, and they give all the glory to Him.

E. A. Hoffman, born in 1839, attended Union Seminary in Pennsylvania and spent many years preaching and serving at churches in Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. Interestingly, the Detty Sisters are from Ohio. Elisha Hoffman died in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 90, having lived through the American Civil War and the Roaring Twenties. He wrote 2,000 hymns and edited over 50 songbooks in his lifetime! 

We certainly hope that The Detty Sisters continue to use their voices, sing Mr. Hoffman’s inspiring lyrics, and share the message of Jesus throughout their lives. And, by the way, the four girls now have another sister!

We serve a merciful, loving and faithful God who is so good to us, much better than we deserve.

In this new music video, they’re walking down an alley, simple, raw, and real. Just like life sometimes. Especially with the news and the latest tragic headlines, we need a bit of faith and hope, don’t you think? And as they sing, others begin to join them, like a soft army of encouragement, reminding us we’re never walking alone.

I’ve been watching Savanna grow into her voice and her dreams as a singer for quite a few years. It’s safe to say her voice has grown into something truly stunning—pure and powerful with echoes of Kari Jobe’s tenderness and a touch of Lauren Daigle’s boldness. She sings like someone who’s learned to trust God through both the waiting and the wondering. And her daddy, Mat, with that steady, comforting voice only a loving father could offer, wraps the whole thing in a strength you can lean into.

Yes, yes, and yes. That’s what so many of us need to be reminded of, isn’t it? That no matter how frail hope feels, it’s not gone. You’ve seen a lot. You’ve prayed through tears. The Isaacs’ stunning take on ‘Gratitude’ will move you deeply and leave you wanting to lift up your hands in praise. The song sounds beautiful, with the slightest country twang and plenty of string instruments. Watch the clip to see the wonderful praise to God. 

“Gratitude” is a song originally written and sung by Brandon Lake. It’s a modern worship song with very thoughtful and soul-touching lyrics. The Isaacs' cover of ‘Gratitude’ is perfectly done in their unique way. The female lead's voice is gentle and elegant. It’s the kind of sound that stops you in your tracks to listen. Some of the lyrics of ‘Gratitude’ are:

So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
'Cause all that I have is a hallelujah, hallelujah
And I know it's not much, but I've nothing else fit for a King

The singer expresses how limited they are in their ways of showing gratitude to God. So they simply praise him with their voice and their hands. Though the gift may seem small, it’s not small to God. Brandon and his wife, Brittany, even wrote a book inspired by the song called “Little Lion Lungs,” which emphasizes that message. 

"While this book was inspired by the words of the song ‘Gratitude,’ our hope is this story would embolden your whole family to show your gratitude to God for all He’s done,” Brandon and Brittany said of the message. “We pray nothing would hold you back, that you would throw up your hands, let your lion out, and sing out a Hallelujah in pure, abandoned worship to the one true King, Jesus.” 

The Isaacs truly chose a wonderful song to cover. They sing it with such care and meaning with every word. Their take on it transforms it from a modern worship track into a beautiful country tune that is slow, soulful, and such a sweet gesture for God. 

“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving,” Psalms 69:30
