As someone who was born and raised in Des Moines before moving to New York in 1997, I’ve had the unique perspective of watching this city evolve over the years. What was once a quieter Midwestern capital has blossomed into a vibrant hub of culture, business, and community, while still retaining the friendly charm that makes it so special.

Des Moines has seen significant growth in recent years, transforming from a well-kept secret into a dynamic destination. The city’s downtown area, once dominated by government buildings, has experienced a revitalization, with new restaurants, breweries, and shops popping up alongside the historic architecture. The Principal Riverwalk, with its scenic trails and beautiful views of the Des Moines River, is a testament to the city’s commitment to blending modern development with natural beauty.
