At a time when many Americans are struggling with the high cost of living and questioning how their financial future might unfold, the Trump administration is working hard to convince them that they are going to fare better in the near future. It’s no secret that Trump has been eager to remove Jerome Powell from his place as Chair of the Federal Reserve, but he’s going to have to wait until Powell’s term expires in May. In the meantime, he has made it known that Kevin Warsh is his choice nominee for filling that spot.

“I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best,” Trump stated on his Truth Social site in a post picked up by NPR. “On top of everything else, he is 'central casting,' and he will never let you down.”

Warsh is Married to the Granddaughter of Billionaire Estée Lauder

Warsh is the son-in-law of World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder, according to The Jerusalem Post, and Warsh also claims to be Jewish. Warsh’s wife, Jane Lauder, is the granddaughter of billionaire Estée Lauder, who owned the Estée Lauder brand and was the daughter of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, according to CMG Partners. Estée passed away in 2004. Ronald Lauder and Trump were undergraduates together at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Trump and Ronald Lauder have been good friends since that time, according to Fortune.

Lauder has also influenced Trump regarding his interest in Greenland. Not only is Ronald Lauder a part of an investment group called Greenland Development Partners, but he’s also invested in a small bottled-water company called Greenland Water Bank, according to Fortune.

Trump Believes Warsh Will Lower Interest Rates

Warsh has plenty of his own impressive accolades, including serving as the Shephard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution, lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, serving on the board of directors of UPS, and serving as a trustee at the Group of Thirty (G30) and Panel of Economic Advisors of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). He also makes a point of performing comprehensive research in the field of economics and finance, according to the Hoover Institution.

In the past, Warsh has not been quick to be supportive of lowering interest rates. In addition, he has been critical about the way the Fed handled the economy during Covid, stating that it was, “the greatest mistake in macroeconomic policy in 45 years,” according to Forbes.

Nevertheless, when Trump was asked during an interview with NBC News Nightly if he believed that Warsh understood that he wants to see interest rates lowered again, Trump responded, “I think he does, but I think he wants to anyway.”

Trump also indicated that Warsh would not have gotten his nomination if he didn’t believe that Warsh was going to lower interest rates.
