7 Days of Discovering God’s Greatness

When I first became a believer, I was astounded by the things God did in the Bible. Throughout Scripture, we see God parting the Red Sea, bringing the dead back to life, and sending His Son to die for the sins of the world. It is important for us to be grounded in the Bible because it helps us learn the truth about God. Far too many people are unfamiliar with Scripture, and this can lead to a distorted view of who He is.
Rather than having a distorted view of God, it is important to reflect on who He is, His attributes, and His love for us. One of the best ways to do this is by taking a deep dive into the Bible. Through this seven-day Bible study, we will discover and reflect on the greatness of God.
1. God’s Greatness Is Unfathomable
“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom” (Psalm 145:3).
To begin studying God’s greatness, we can start with Psalm 145:3. In this passage, we see several important truths. First, the Lord is great and most worthy of our praise. Second, His greatness is unfathomable. This means we will never fully understand the fullness of God’s greatness on this side of Heaven. He is too amazing, wonderful, and beautiful for us to completely comprehend.
However, God has revealed everything we need to know about Him in the Bible. He has made Himself known through His Word and by taking on flesh. Through these beautiful acts of love, we see that His greatness is unsearchable. Rather than doubting or questioning Him, we are called to praise Him. God is good, and we can trust in His greatness.
Challenge Questions:
What is the most amazing thing you know about God?
God is worthy of all our praise—how can you praise Him today?
Turning to the Bible helps you learn more about God. Will you begin reading it today? Why or why not?
2. God Sent His Son to Die for Our Sins
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16-17).
As we consider God’s greatness, we cannot overlook the beautiful act of sending His only Son to die for the sins of the world. He did this because of His immense love for us. Whoever believes in Jesus and accepts Him as Savior and Lord will have eternal life. This was the very purpose for which the Father sent His Son: to save the world. He did not send Jesus to condemn us or to bring vengeance.
This reveals the depth of God’s love. In His greatness and power, He restored what we had broken. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve sinned against God by eating the forbidden fruit. Because of their sin, they were exiled from the Garden, and their relationship with God was broken. It was not until Jesus died for our sins that this relationship was restored. Now, anyone can come to know Jesus, accept Him as Savior, and experience a renewed relationship with the Father.

Why do you think God loves us so much?
God’s greatness is revealed in His plan of salvation. Have you placed your faith in Jesus? Why or why not?
Throughout our lives, we continue to cultivate our relationship with God. How can you nurture that relationship today?
3. God Is Mighty to Save
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
God’s might, power, and strength are unfathomable to us as humans. His strength goes beyond anything we could ever fully comprehend. God is stronger, more powerful, and mightier than anything or anyone. We learn this truth about His greatness in Zephaniah 3:17: God is with us and is the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He takes great delight in us and no longer rebukes us. Instead, He rejoices over us with singing. God is mighty to save, and He also delights in us with love. This reveals the beautiful balance between God’s might and His love. These qualities coexist perfectly because His love and righteousness go hand in hand.
Challenge Questions:
God is our Mighty Warrior, and He is mighty to save. What does this tell you about His power and strength?
God takes great delight in you. What does this mean in your own life?
How does it feel to know that God rejoices over you with singing?

4. God Can Help Us to Do All Things
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us. Since Jesus is the second Person of the Trinity, He is God. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all fully God, one God in three distinct Persons. Therefore, when we speak of the Father, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, we are referring to God.
In Philippians 4:13, we see that Jesus gives us strength for all things. Through His power, He enables us to face whatever comes our way. Think about what you need Jesus’ strength for this week. Maybe it’s a big test, a difficult friendship, or a hard conversation with your spouse. Reflect on this verse and rest in the peace that comes from knowing Christ will strengthen you.
Challenge Questions:
What is something you need Jesus’ strength for this week? How can you trust Him to help you?
You can do all things through Christ—how does this change your approach to life?
How did you handle difficult situations before knowing Jesus? How has that changed since placing your faith in Him?
5. God Can Do More Than We Could Ever Imagine
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21).
God’s greatness is revealed in His ability to do more than we could ever ask or imagine. In Ephesians 3:20-21, Paul reminds us that God works in ways far beyond our expectations, according to His power at work within us. To the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit belongs all glory forever and ever.
Like Paul, we are called to praise God for His goodness. We don’t deserve His blessings, yet He gives generously and without measure. At times, we may doubt God when we don’t see immediate results. In those moments, we can return to this passage for hope and encouragement. God is always at work, and He is able to do far more than we can imagine; all because of His great love for us.
Challenge Questions:
How have you seen God do more than you expected in your life?
How can you consistently praise God each day?
Knowing that God can do immeasurably more, what prayers will you begin bringing before Him?
6. God Is to Be Praised for His Greatness
“For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods” (Psalm 96:4).
It may seem obvious, but it is important to praise God for His greatness. His greatness is the very reason we are here. At the heart of His greatness is His love. Because of this, we should offer Him praise and thanksgiving throughout our day.
Many people think praise only happens during corporate worship, but that is just one expression of it. We can also praise God through obedience, love, and personal worship. Church is not the only place where we honor Him. Wherever we go, we can lift up His name. Even a simple “I praise You, God” can be a meaningful act of worship.
Challenge Questions:
God is worthy of all our praise. How can you praise Him today?
God is always good—does that lead your heart to praise? Why or why not?
How can you intentionally focus more on God today?
7. God Is Everlasting and Eternal
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom” (Isaiah 40:28).
God is everlasting and eternal, as Isaiah 40:28 tells us. He is the Creator of the entire world, even the farthest ends of the earth. He never grows tired, weak, or weary. His understanding is beyond our comprehension because He is God, and we are human. His greatness, wisdom, and power surpass anything we could ever imagine.
Unlike us, God does not grow weary. As humans, we often feel tired and overwhelmed, especially in difficult seasons. Yet because of who God is, He remains our constant protector, refuge, and safe place. No one compares to Him. As we walk through life, we can reflect on His greatness and find rest in who He is.
Challenge Questions:
God is everlasting and eternal—what does this reveal to you about His nature?
How does it comfort you to know that God never grows tired or weary?
What does God’s infinite understanding teach you about His greatness?
Pray with me: Dear God, I praise You for Your greatness. Help me to live each day in the hope of your strength, peace, and glory. Thank You for always going beyond my greatest hope and prayers. Every day, help me to reflect on Your greatness and to give You praise. Amen.
