Firm Foundation of Identity in Christ

Father God,

We lift the sons of the parents or surrogate parents, praying this very day.  A son is not always of natural kinship, but they are still deeply cared for, forever still. We know that the truth of Proverbs 9:10 rings true from generation to generation: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Father, may these young men fear You above all else, more than the opinions of others, their desire for earthly rewards, and more than the accolades of man. We pray that their foundation would be rooted and established in love incarnate, Jesus Christ alone. May every decision of their hearts, word of their mouths, and step of their feet be from that anchor in Christ.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Wisdom and Discernment

Father God,

We pray for these mighty youths' continual growth of wisdom and discernment. Discernment is something that is cultivated through practice and experience, and it is something that You graciously give us when we ask. We pray that the ask of their hearts to You would be James 1:5, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” May they know that You are not just approachable, but You are delighted to answer such a prayer. We pray that wisdom would be the desire of the heart of these young men, and that they would crave it deeply.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Strength to Turn Away Temptation

Father God,

Temptation is nothing new; it was present in Eden and exists today. Paul’s reminder in Ephesians 6:12 of “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” is intensely felt in this age, just as it was the day it was first penned. Especially in an age where children can access the internet, temptation can easily emerge. We pray that when temptation of any sort comes, be it sexual, moral, ethical, or beyond, the initial reaction of these beloved sons would be to seek what You say. In a childlike way, we pray they would run into Your arms for protection and clarity in proceeding forward. We also pray that when the Enemy seeks to lure them into things that are not beneficial for them, they would live out the words of James 4:7, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Lord, please help these young hearts not to fall prey to the schemes of the devil, but to instead find release through Your Holy Spirit

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Good and Godly Friends

Dear God,

The company someone keeps can often sway them in the direction of their lives, and so we pray today for godly friendships for these sons. Proverbs 27:17 provides imagery of how a friend can enhance someone, and how they can do the same in return: “As iron sharpens iron, so a person sharpens his friend.” Lord, please make these connections and foster these relationships in the lives of our sons. Whether they are for a reason, a season, or a lifetime, we ask that they serve a greater purpose than just mere companionship, but instead a purpose of glorifying You in full. May those sharp-iron friends be seen, and may stumbling block friendships cease. We know that friendships are something You invented, and it is something You made us for with You and with one another. Please lead these children to one another and help them flourish, learn, and mature together.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Worth Ethic and Character

Father God,

Hard work and integrity are honorable qualities that, sadly, are difficult to find today. We pray that such attributes would be woven into the fabric of who these young men are growing up to be one day. May their moral compasses point True North, straight unto You. May there be a return for their work of clear fruit, not to boost egos or inflate heads, but to offer a tangible reminder that doing things with good character is worthwhile. May this not be solely something for them to hold, but may it be something they pass down from generation to generation.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Safety and Willingness to Follow God

Father God,

Intercession is a precious opportunity to sincerely pray, contend, and fight on our knees before Your throne. First and foremost, we thank You for that ability, and we do not take it lightly, but we intercede on behalf of sons everywhere for their safety and safekeeping as they live. You are a mighty Safe-Haven; we know this from the words of Psalm 91:1-2, "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” With that truth in heart and mind, please be the Protector of these young ones. Not just at school, but in their lifetimes, may Your hand be their covering and shield in all they face. We also pray that they would be willing to go where You send them, that the heart of the Hebrew word, hineni, or “Here I am,” would be their response when You call upon them. May they attest in the future and believe in the present to the fact that in every moment, breath, and situation, You are with them, in this life to the next in eternity. May these sons commit their lives to You, oh Lord, so that they may be true sons of Yours, and may their lives serve Your Kingdom here on earth. We pray for their salvation through Christ and your callings for their lives not to be thwarted by the enemy but lived out in full. Thank You for these cherished sons, and help us honor You in raising and stewarding these impressionable youths.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
