Zelenskyy & European Leaders Meet With Trump

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump expressed hope that Monday’s critical talks with Ukrainian and European leaders at the White House could lead to trilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring an end to Russia’s war on Ukraine. Monday’s hastily assembled meeting comes after Trump met with Putin and has said that the onus is now on Zelenskyy to agree to concessions that he said could end the war. A group of European political heavy-hitters will also meet with the U.S. president after they were left out of Friday’s summit, and they are looking to safeguard Ukraine and the continent from any widening aggression from Moscow. Here's the latest: Trump and Zelenskyy meeting privately The leaders were holding closed-door talks after they made opening statements and answered questions from reporters who were admitted to the Oval Office to see them together. A group photo of Trump, Zelenskyy and the European leaders followed before everyone meets in the East Room to discuss how to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Texas Democrats Return For House Map Overhaul

Texas Democrats say they are ending a two-week walkout that stalled Republican efforts to redraw congressional districts as part of a national partisan brawl over President Donald Trump’s desire to reshape U.S. House maps to his advantage. Their return will allow the Republican-run Legislature to proceed as California Democrats’ advance a counter-effort to redraw their congressional boundaries in retaliation — a tit-for-tat that puts the nation’s two most populous states at the center of an expanding fight over control of Congress ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Texas and California have been at the forefront of a national fight to reshape the congressional landscape.

Heavy rains expected in Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands as Hurricane Erin nears

Erin has strengthened into a hurricane as it approaches Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, bringing heavy rains that could cause flooding and landslides. The National Hurricane Center in Miami reports the storm is several hundred miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. Tropical storm watches are in effect for parts of the Leeward Islands. Erin is the first hurricane of the Atlantic storm season. The death toll tops 150 from flash floods in northwest Pakistan A provincial emergency service spokesperson says a massive cloudburst triggered flash floods in northwestern Pakistan and has killed at least 157 people, including women and children. Dozens of people are still missing, and rescue operations are underway. He said 78 bodies were recovered from various parts of Buner district by midday Friday, and another 79 were pulled from the rubble of collapsed homes and flooded villages later. The latest fatalities bring the total number of rain-related deaths to 556 since June 26. Michigan football fined 10s of millions of dollars The NCAA has fined Michigan football tens of millions of dollars and suspended coach Sherrone Moore for three games in a sign-stealing scandal. Moore, already serving a self-imposed two-game suspension, also will miss the first game of the 2026-27 season. Connor Stalions received an eight-year show-cause order, while former coach Jim Harbaugh faces a 10-year show-cause order starting in 2028. A “Show cause” order makes it difficult for them to work in college athletics. The NCAA’s investigation began in 2023, revealing Michigan’s in-person scouting and sign-stealing activities. The NCAA prohibits using electronic equipment to record another team’s signals.
