Officials say a suspect has been arrested in connection with last week's theft of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse as she ate at a Washington, D.C., restaurant. Noem’s purse was nabbed on Easter Sunday and reportedly contained about $3,000 in cash, her keys, driver’s license, passport and Homeland Security badge. The department said Noem had cash in her purse to pay for gifts, dinner and other activities for her family on Easter. The Secret Service says the suspect was taken into custody without incident in Washington, D.C. It calls the suspect a “serial offender.”

Energy Giants Begin Oil And Gas Production In Gulf Of America

Chevron has started oil and gas production from a project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the oil major said on Monday, bringing the company a step closer toward its goal of growing production from the ocean basin by 50% this year. The $1.6 billion project called Ballymore, located about 160 miles southeast of New Orleans, is composed of three wells that is expected to produce up to 75,000 barrels of oil per day. Chevron aims to grow oil and gas production from the Gulf to 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2026, and at the same time, it is working to cut up to $3 billion in costs across the business. Instead of building a new production platform for Ballymore, the wells will transport oil and gas back to an existing platform, which the company said will allow it to increase production at less expense. "Ballymore is interesting in that it's a tie-back to an existing facility, which has allowed us to bring production to market more quickly," said Bruce Niemeyer, president of Americas exploration and production, in an interview. The project is also Chevron's first in a geological formation of the Gulf called Norphlet, where the oil and gas industry has historically had fewer discoveries than in other parts of the ocean basin, he added. Advancements in technology are key to expanding resource exploration, such as the use of ocean bottom nodes, which allow geophysicists to collect better data underneath the ocean floor, Niemeyer said. Chevron is the operator of Ballymore with a 60% interest, while co-owner TotalEnergies has 40%. Ballymore holds an estimated 150 million barrels of oil equivalent in potentially recoverable resources. The company owns 370 leases in the Gulf of Mexico and expects to participate in a lease sale this year by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, Niemeyer said. The Ballymore start-up comes after Chevron announced first oil in August at Anchor, a Gulf of Mexico project that is a technological breakthrough with the ability to operate in deepwater pressures of up to 20,000 pounds per square inch.

White House Highlights Border Policy With Mugshot Posters

The White House is highlighting President Trump’s border agenda to mark the administration’s 100th day in office. About 100 yard signs with mugshots of arrested unauthorized immigrants have been placed along the White House driveway. The individuals on the posters are described as “illegal aliens.” The display is part of the administration’s focus on the president’s immigration policy. In a social media post, the White House warned illegal immigrant criminals: “We will hunt you down. You will face justice. You will be deported.”

More Than 100 Migrants Arrested In Colorado Springs Nightclub Raid

Authorities say more than 100 immigrants suspected of being in the United States illegally were taken into custody during a raid at an illegal after-hours nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Video posted online by the Drug Enforcement Administration showed agents announcing their presence outside the building early Sunday. DEA special agent in charge John Pullen says the club has been under investigation for several months for alleged activities including drug trafficking, prostitution and “crimes of violence.” Pullen says U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took the immigrants into custody. Also among those detained were a dozen active-duty military service members who either were patrons or were working as armed security.

Autopsy Confirms Gene Hackman Died From Heart Disease, Notes His Alzheimer's And Prolonged Fasting

The main cause of Gene Hackman's death was heart disease, but he was also in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease and likely had not eaten for a long time, according to a new autopsy report. The report documents the 95-year-old actor’s poor heart health, noting he had experienced congestive heart failure, an aortic valve replacement and an irregular heart beat. He was given a pacemaker in April 2019. Hackman’s carbon monoxide concentration was less than 5% saturation, which is within the normal range. He tested negative for the hantavirus, which is a rare but potentially fatal disease spread by infected rodent droppings. Authorities have said Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, likely died Feb. 11 at home from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Her autopsy report hasn’t yet been released. A toxicology report says Hackman tested negative for alcohol and intoxicating drugs, but that he had a low concentration of acetone in his system that indicates prolonged fasting. Hackman appeared to have outlived Arakawa at home by about a week, possibly unaware of his wife's death. Hackman’s pacemaker showed an abnormal heart rhythm on Feb. 18 — the day he likely died, according to the state's chief medical examiner. Records released earlier in the investigation showed Arakawa made phone calls and internet searches as she scoured for information on flu-like symptoms and breathing techniques. Recently released videos outline the scope of the investigation into the deaths of Hackman and Arakawa. Before they understood how Hackman and Arakawa died, authorities recorded themselves conducting interviews with workers and returning to Hackman’s home to search for more evidence. Detectives searched the home in early March for Arakawa’s laptop and other clues.

Canadians Head To Ballot Box With 2 Parties In Tight Race To Form Next Government

Monday is election day in Canada, with the Liberal and Conservative parties in a dead heat to form the next government as America looms large among voters' concerns. US President Donald Trump's controversial statements to make Canada the 51st state and ongoing tariff war have roiled voters across the nation as they prepare to cast ballots that will determine their next government. Seldom has a foreign actor played such a major role in a Canadian federal election. The leaders of the trio of major federal parties – the Liberals, Conservatives, and New Democrat Party (NDP) – have each professed to be the best to stand up to the controversial US leader. According to Abacus data poll results released heading into election day, the top three issues were reducing the cost of living at 45%, while Trump himself lurks as number two (30%) and at number three is affordable housing (20%). The Liberals have been in power since 2015 and hold a four-point lead over Conservatives as voters head to the polls. Last year Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and his party held a commanding lead over the Liberals for months in various public polls. But then the deeply unpopular Justin Trudeau resigned as prime minister in January. A Liberal leadership convention chose former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney as the new leader and a remarkable turnaround began, with the Liberals climbing steadily in public polls and into the lead the day before the election. The NDP lags far behind the other two, and the best its leader Jagmeet Singh can hope for – and it is unlikely – is a minority government with the NDP holding the balance of power.
